Payment & Purchase Terms

Last updated: 15 September 2025

Scope: These terms apply when Carma agrees to purchase your vehicle in the Auckland region.

Indicative price first, final price after inspection. Online estimates are a guide only. Your final offer is confirmed after our on-site check and a short road test (where appropriate).

1) How our offer works

Accuracy matters. Offers rely on the information you provide (kms, condition, damage, service history, extras). If the vehicle differs materially on inspection, we may revise or withdraw the offer.

Offer validity. Final offers are usually valid for a short window (e.g., same day) unless we agree otherwise in writing.

2) Checks we complete

Identity & authority. We’ll verify photo ID and that you’re authorised to sell the vehicle.

PPSR/security interests. We search the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR). If a security interest exists, we’ll require a current payout letter and will arrange release as part of settlement.

Change of registered person. NZ rules require both buyer and seller to notify Waka Kotahi of a registered person change when a vehicle changes hands; we’ll help you complete this promptly.

3) Finance owing

We can settle your loan. With a valid payout letter, we’ll pay your lender the amount owing and pay you any surplus.

Shortfalls. If the payout exceeds our offer, you’ll need to pay the difference to complete the sale.

Security release. You agree to help obtain any releases needed to ensure the vehicle is free of encumbrances at settlement.

4) How we pay

Method. Electronic bank transfer to a New Zealand bank account in the legal seller’s name. We don’t pay cash.

Timing. We initiate payment immediately after you accept the final offer and the paperwork is signed. Actual availability of funds depends on inter-bank processing by your bank. Some banks offer same-day cleared payments (fees may apply), otherwise standard domestic transfers are processed in bank cycles, including weekends/public holidays for participating banks.

Name matching. For security and AML/KYC reasons, we may refuse to pay third-party accounts unless we are satisfied you have authority.

Proof of payment. We can provide a payment confirmation/receipt on request.

5) When title and risk pass

On acceptance + payment + paperwork. Ownership passes when you’ve accepted the final offer, we’ve initiated payment, and the change of registered person has been submitted. You agree to complete all signatures and steps required under NZ rules.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi

Collection. We arrange collection at an agreed time/place in Auckland. Until collection, you must keep the vehicle in substantially the same condition and insured.

6) What you must provide

Documents & items: NZ photo ID, registration info, any finance payout letter, service records, spare keys, accessories (e.g., second key, charger for EVs), and anything represented as included.

True disclosure: You confirm the odometer reading and disclose any known faults, damage, write-off history, or modifications.

7) Deductions & adjustments (if applicable)

We may agree deductions for things like missing keys, tyres below legal tread, expired RUC/licence, or remedial work identified on inspection. Any adjustments will be explained before you accept the final offer.

8) Cancellations & rescheduling

If either party needs to change an appointment, we’ll try to accommodate a new time. We may cancel the purchase if we can’t verify identity/authority, if security interests can’t be released, or if condition materially differs from what was represented.

9) Liability & limits

To the extent permitted by NZ law, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits your rights that can’t be excluded under NZ consumer law.

10) Privacy

We handle your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy and NZ law. We use your details to evaluate and purchase your vehicle, complete required checks and transfers, and communicate about your sale.
